For this project, we were asked to design a gate between two existing, tall brick pillars. To provide the right visual counterbalance, we chose a robust design with a visible frame structure, which elegantly breaks up the expansive surface of the gate leaves. Because tall gate leaves catch a lot of wind when opening, they deliberately do not extend to the full height of the pillars. To maintain a perfect balance in proportions between the gate and the columns, the stiles were extended and finished with a subtle curve.
